Gaming Banter, Merchandise

Hi all,

I’m referring to purchasing games, i’m sure not all of us do this but I refer to myself as an old school gamer, not just because of my age, more because i’ve had every system since the Atari. Now when it comes to purchasing these latest awesome games, it is worth the wait, more often than not you don’t have to wait too long before a price on a great game can drop as much as $30, which now can be a lot for some.

Also even though I would love to own a specific game on the day it releases, i’ve learned over the years that it can pay by being a little patient. Lets take an example here, within 5 months of Mass Effect 3 and Kingdoms of Amalur, the price had dropped to less than $20. When you think that these games are the standard $60 when they first come out, for the sake of waiting 3 to 5 months it really is worth it.

The added bonus of waiting these few extra months is pretty good too, firstly you have all the info posted online if you ever get stuck when you do start to play, also this is about the time when download content such as add-ons start to appear to keep the game play interesting and keep players playing the game for longer. On top of that when you do start playing there are a ton of players already playing the game that don’t mind helping you out.

So this is why us old school gamers prefer to wait a little while, if you have $60 to blow on a brand new game, save your money, let the game come down to around $30 and you then have the money to buy either another game or two or get all the add-on content, not a bad policy really. Using this argument I also see quite a few kids making deals with their parents, you know like “well if I wait for 3 months can I have two games? pretty please?” you get how it goes.

Ok now in order to answer the question i’m obviously going to get after this post, I am looking to get Kingdoms of Amalur as it looks like a really cool game, also if I buy it at the price now (less then $20) and it turns out to be not to my liking then I haven’t lost too much. I was never going to buy Mass Effect 3 but at the price you can get it now I probably will.

Of course there are still games I would love to own the day of their release ( like AC3) but I won’t let it get me down too much if I can’t afford it, as I know I will be able to get it in a few months and probably with all the DLC too.

To finish off I would also like to point out that over the course of a year, even if you just buy 2 games per month, by waiting until they come down to around half price, that is a saving of $720, bet you hadn’t thought of it like that, I mean that’s the price of two PS 3 systems.

Tony 🙂

Gaming Banter, WKC Online

This one is dedicated to all the older gamers, I really didn’t realise there were so many gamers out there the same age group as me, I’m 46 and I actually thought I was the lonely shark swimming amongst a sea of minnows.

It was actually pretty cool to read one of the posts on the Geo network asking for older gamers, I was quite stunned to find out there were so many players even over 50, and the 80yr old granny playing the xbox was brilliant, good on yer grandma:)

If any of you old timers out there want to reminisce about our younger days gaming times, what games started you out or just chat about how your preferences have changed over the years and what your playing now feel free to pull up a chair and start rambling, your all welcome.

At WKC i’m back to level 45 after rebirthing yesterday and i’ve been practicing with shortsword and shield instead of my trusty longsword, I can actually see me using all the weapons in this game, i’m at least going to put them all to the test, i’ll let you know how it goes.

Tony🙂
