Yes I will be getting back to RPG’s very soon but I said i’d write the review on Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2010 after getting a couple of days of fun from Cabela’s Outdoor Adventures 2010.

Well I actually liked this one better than the last one, this was more fun and took much longer to get all PS3 trophies, you can complete this game in a day but if you really want to complete everything, which means all gold medals, all mini-games and all PS3 trophies or XBox360 achievements then it’s going to cost you two or even three days.

This game doesn’t spend too much time on the aspect of searching for your hunt like the previous game, your pretty much directed to where your animal is going to be, the focus here is more on your accuracy, ability to work out the best vantage point and maximize your points for each kill.

Compared to the last one there wasn’t as much in the way of weapons, you didn’t get a bow, just a crossbow, one pistol and a few rifles. There wasn’t a trophy for using each weapon so you didn’t really have to worry about switching too much, although there is a trophy for killing so many with the crossbow, pistol and muzzleloader rifle.

The hardest trophy by far, for me anyway, was finding at least 90 animal signs, that was a pain as I had to play through the entire game a third time to find those, which gave me the platinum.

This game I found much more realistic in the way the animals fell when you shot them, I actually got drawn into really trying to get the prize trophy in each group, the one animal in the herd worth much more than the rest and was actually disappointed if I got a bronze or silver.

As it turns out another PS3 trophy (or achievement on xbox360 ) is to collect all gold medals.

Some of the animals in this game were great, I really enjoyed hunting a buffalo and being able to creep within 20 yds for the challenge kill.

One aspect of the game which actually took me by surprise was when told to hunt a bear, a mountain lion or leopard, I really had no idea that they would attack you. I thought I would stalk a grizzly bear and shoot him from a distance but when I came across him at the waters edge there were no “vitals” showing, so I shoot this big grizzly and he looks up and gets really angry and starts chasing me, now i’m panicking as I had no idea what to do, then he jumps all over me and now i’m button mashing to sock him in the mouth with my rifle, four or five shots later and lots of paw prints on my face (presumably), he goes down, leaving me thinking “what the hell just happened? How cool was that?”

Well without going on too much if you liked Cabela’s Outdoor Adventures 2010 then you’ll probably really enjoy this one, it’s a lot of fun.

One other thing that was really fun was the mini-games you come across during the game, most were shooting ducks but there were also rabbits, foxes, and hares. It’s actually pretty funny shooting the rabbits and hares, rent it just for fun.

If you want to check out my review of gamefly just click here, I noticed blockbuster has started game rentals too but there are more expensive than gamefly and gamefly does have “keep” prices on many of their games which are quite often cheaper than the stores.

There was something I got wrong in my last review on Cabela’s Outdoor Adventures 2010 and I mentioned that this one Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2010 had over 50 trophies, there is actually 28 trophies in all, 27 plus the platinum.

I’ve just recieved Burnout Paradise in the mail, now I know this one is a couple of years old and I may just hate it, racing games don’t do much for me but occasionally one comes along that I don’t mind playing with the boys. The reason Burnout Paradise was put on the list was because I did a search for the PS3 game with the most ever trophies and this game was it apparently, they say 98 trophies, well i’ll find out now won’t I?

Even though it’s been out two years i’ll write a review on it and let you know if I manage to get the platinum trophy, or if I just give up and throw it in the garbage, lol

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories I think has got to be top of the list for most anticipated game on PS2, it’s had many problems while in development and untold delays but it’s here at last, actually it’s been out around a week and I only realised this myself this morning so thought I would mention it, personally there was a time when I thought i’d never see this one, i’m pleased they got it in the end and now it’s out at a fairly reasonable price.

So what is so different about this one? Here are some of the features you can expect:

    * A re-imagining of the original Silent Hill that turns everything you thought you knew on its head
    * The game watches you and adapts to your actions to create a unique experience to each player and intensify their fears
    * Implementation of a cell phone as the user interface, which acts as a story telling device, map, puzzle helper, and camera that provides seamless flow with no interruption in gameplay
    * New nightmare sequence focus on escape and evasion rather than direct confrontation
    * Silent Hill: Shattered Memories will feature an all-new soundtrack by acclaimed series composer Akira Yamaoka

Sounds cool doesn’t it? Well here is the game description:

Silent Hill cranks up the fear factor with Shattered Memories. This re-imagining of the franchise’s first chilling installment tracks your fears and alters the experience to prey on them. Harry Mason wakes up after a car accident to find his daughter missing. Use a new cellphone interface as you roam Silent Hill’s snowy streets looking for clues. Answers lurk in the darkness, but so does something much more sinister. Soon demons will shadow your every move. Your choices influence the locations you’ll find and the enemies you’ll encounter, which the game – based on your actions – tailors to your deepest fears.

Sounds almost as good as a PS3 game, can’t wait to play this one, as soon as I get the game and play it i’ll write the review as always, feel free to tell us your thoughts or write our first review on this game.

Ok my latest exploit isn’t my usual RPG, in fact it’s not even an RPG, it’s a shooter. Now don’t give me a hard time on this, hear me out ok.

I was waiting for Borderlands to turn up and in the meantime i’d added some games purely because they had trophies, I am a bit of a trophy hunter and I think it’s a decent feature on the PS3 system, I actually get a kick out of seeing those pop up trophy messages in the top right hand corner of the screen, it’s like acknowledging that you’ve actually achieved something, like a pat on the back for doing a good job.

Anyway one game which was added to the list was a hunting game called cabela’s outdoor adventures 2010, now I already see the criticism but it was initially put on the list first because it had trophies and second because a couple of my boys wanted to play it too.

So, while waiting for Borderlands to show it’s face this Cabela’s turns up first, so I give it a go, and yes, you guessed it, it happened to be a half decent game, not my thing at all but it was a bit of fun, really.

It actually only took me around 8hrs to complete the main story mode and another 2 hours to complete trophy mode, which makes it one of the easiest games to achieve a platinum trophy for your PS3 collection if your a trophy hunter.

Ok a bit about the game, at best for those like myself it’s a break from the norm, a bit of fun and I think if it was any longer than it was it wouldn’t have been enjoyable, sorry to those fans of Cabela’s that wish they were longer but I think the balance was perfect.

You get to go through four states in america to hunt pretty much every creature you can legally hunt, you gain access to a wide variety of rifles, shotguns and even a couple of bows (which was fun), a hundgun and some special accessories which make the hunt that much easier, a treestand to shoot from up high, some bear and deer scent to attract the beasts your going to kill, some cover spray so they can’t detect you so easily and so on.

The story mode is fairly straightforward and you can’t wander off too far without a tree blocking your way or water you can’t cross so you will always come across the animal your supposed to be hunting.

Most of your PS3 trophies you will obtain by following the main quest but there are a couple that you could easily miss, like one trophy is for killing animals with each weapon, sounds easy but it’s easy to forget to change your weapon that you just recently unlocked, so as you obtain a new rifle or shotgun then try to use it.

Another trophy which seemed easy enough was use iron sights only, well I looked and looked and couldn’t find no iron sights, what it actually meant was take the sights off the gun so you just use the iron sights of the gun.

All in all a pretty good game, enjoyable, not too long that you’d get bored of it, a decent bit of fun and another platinum trophy under your belt. Not a buyer unless you really love these kinds of games but a definite rent.

If anyone decides to give it a go and gets stuck just let me know and i’ll help you out as there are about two or three hidden areas which could be easy to miss, mostly on the opportunity hunts.

After playing this one i’ve decided to add Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2010 to my rent list as this one has over 50 trophies too, I think secretly i’m actually looking forward to playing it.

Keep your eye out for my review of that one, hey, I gotta do something while i’m waiting for the good stuff to turn up.

I know I said I would find better ps3 bundles before christmas but it turns out there are better ones out there now.

Since christmas and the new year has come and gone there are better deals as sales take a downward turn and here is the latest ps3 bundle offer for those who acted wisely and saved their money.

This bundle is quite amazing really and I can’t tell you if it’s a limited time offer as yet.

You get to choose your console and yes there is a choice, remember the 250gig ps3 I wrote about a while ago? That’s the choice, either the normal 120gig or the 250gig which i’m sure a lot of people have been looking forward to. If you choose the 250gig you have to add an extra $50 though, let’s face it it’s worth it.

You also get to choose an extra controller and there are four to choose from, the sony dualshock wireless controller in black, red, silver or blue. I’ve updated this part as at first this didn’t seem like a good deal, what makes it worth it is you get an extra controller and it’s my personal experience you need at least two to get the full value out of some of the ps3 games.

You get to choose your game and it’s not just a couple like you would normally expect, 57 in total, although some require an extra $10 added and some an extra $20 added, the reason is probably to give you more choice in the bundle instead of being landed with a game you don’t really want.

My recommendation if you don’t want to pay any more extra would be either fallout 3 or resident evil 5. If you don’t mind paying an extra $20 for a more recent game then you can pick uncharted 2 or call of duty modern warfare 2, I’ll list all 57 at the end of this post and put the extra price too.

Then you have the accessory to choose with your bundle, the accessory available without paying any extra is the sony blueray remote.

If you want to pick one of the other four accessories then it’s extra so I would recommend sticking with the remote, I paid $20 for mine and it was worth it.

So total price is $399 if you choose the 120gig console, the controller color of your choice, one of the slightly older games (which are still cool),and the ps3 remote, that’s pretty good, I wish i’d have had that much choice when I bought mine.

The only extra I would say is actually worth it is the extra $50 for the 250gig, especially if your like me and enjoy the trophy hunting and messing around in the playstation network/home.

Ok here are a list of the games available in this bundle:

I know The Guildmasters is pretty much surrounded by PS3 talk and games but occasionally something different springs up and I check it out.

My latest exploration found me investigating something i’d seen advertised on my frequent visits to gamefly, an online game called Evony.

I couldn’t be sure if it was any good just by reading some reviews so decided to pay Evony a visit, to my surprise it was more popular than I expected it to be, somewhere in the region of 10 million players give or take a few thousand either way, probably more now as I witnessed “newbies” arriving daily while I was there.

Anyway I signed up for a free account and yes actually it is free and always will be, that’s their guarantee as well as their slogan ‘free forever”, although you can deposit real money if you wish to advance quicker but I don’t really see the point unless your impatient, then this game probably isn’t for you anyway.

Ok so I know your all asking why on earth have I got involved in something completely away from my usual stuff, there is a good reason.

I played a game on my PS3 called civilization and obviously expected too much from it, my own personal view on that game was that it was rubbish, I played it for one day completed it once and sent it back the next day.

Evony is what I expected from civilization, it’s a brilliant game of strategy, alliance, independance (if that’s what you want), and creation.

You literally build a city, your city, from the ground up, you start with a plain piece of ground and start building, cottages for your people to live in and so your population can grow, upgrade the cottages to house more people, build barrracks to train your army, or concentrate on defenses only, you can build and upgrades walls around your city with archer’s towers.

Outside your city is your resource fields where you can build farms to feed your growing population, build quarries to acquire stone for building, build ironmines and sawmills for the timber. Each building requires a certain amount of timber, iron and stone so you have to manage everything so that it is well balanced.

If you don’t generate enough food your people will leave you, your actions determine how high your prestige gets, and how loyal your people are.

You can demand a “levy” if your short on a particular resource but if you use that option too much your people’s loyalty will drop and they will show grievance towards you, if you don’t correct this, again they will leave.

There is an unbelievable amount of things to do in Evony and it’s a wonderful adventure. I’ve been with them for around two weeks now and i’m addicted.

You have a world chat so you can talk to fellow Evonians or if you join an alliance you can chat in alliance chat so you can discuss strategies, an alliance is good for protection against other cities who may want to attack you for your resources.

To start out you get 7 full days of peacetime in which no-one can attack your city, this gives you time to build your city and make it secure and to start creating defensive or protective measures such as archers, archers towers, traps, foot soldiers or cavalry.

Also there are quests which you should follow to begin with as completion of the quests actually reward you with items that you can use to speed things up or apply to other quests.

This is not a hugely time consuming game either, i’m really hooked on Evony but I don’t have to spend more than an hour a day playing it, you can play all day if you like or just 15 minutes here and there.

As your city reaches higher levels the upgrades can take many hours so at the moment I usually log into my account, upgrade a couple of things, have a chat with my alliance, then upgrade one of my higher level buildings which may take up to 30hrs real time, then I can go and do other things.

Sometimes I leave Evony running in the browser while playing the PS3 so I can keep an eye on upgrades and even my alliance friends will keep an eye on my city when i’m offline, it’s really cool.

In all honesty i’ve never felt like playing anything online, but this game is really unique, you get a great sense of accomplishment out of completing quests and a great sense of achievement when you conquer your first city.

There isn’t much sense in reading this review without giving it a go, it really is absolutely free and i’m not trying to sell the game to you, I found it, I loved it, and now i’m posting it on my blog as it is a game that in my book deserves a mention.

Evony has been getting a bit of a bad rep recently due to a number of people heavily spamming in forums and so forth, if you’ve been seeing Evony ads in your face everywhere then it is a minority of idiots that are abusing the system, please don’t let that put you off trying this one out.

You all know by my reviews i’m an rpg fanatic and adventure games make the cut sometimes, although this is probably not a full on RPG it has elements of RPG, Adventure, Strategy as well as a certain amount of skill and organization.

If you do join and give it a go, you can look out for me, my username is masteroftheguild and i’ve even named my city morrowind, i’m on server 126
To visit Evony just go to www.evony.com

If you have any questions about Evony I can help you with you can email me at masteroftheguild@yahoo.com

More recently i’ve shopped around for more info on what games are being developed, let’s face it we’ve got some decent gaming systems now and by comparison to the past relatively few really decent games, in particular RPG’s.

I’m sure there are some games in the making that will really grab us like morrowind did, then fallout 3, I mean they are more than just experimenting now, some games are so open-ended the possibilities are endless, and mind boggling.

Anyway, after cutting my way through the tons of info out there, online, offline, mags, tv, game stores etc..it seems that there are some really good ones in the making.

Some is speculation, some rumor and some fact, the only stuff i’m posting here are ones that seem to be a definite.

It seems there will be a fallout 4 and almost definitely an Elder Scrolls V which will be absolutely awesome if both can better the previous ones.

The other definite which is puzzling is another Tomb Raider, not puzzling because there is another potential Tomb Raider in the making, it’s the information that’s puzzling and me and my sons have been discussing it at length.

By some strange coincidence there seems to be some artwork going around the internet which depicts an apparent Lara Croft but as a much younger version, teenager by appearance.

Rumors abound since this artwork found its way online which got me and my sons chatting about how they could change the appearance of someone who has been with the series since the beginning.

After wearing the subject out we decided that the only way to explain this younger version away would be if Lara had a daughter, which would explain the artwork I saw.

Also someone involved in the making of the Tomb Raider’s was quoted as saying something like Tomb Raider fans will be amazed and fall in love with her all over again, it will revitalize the series.

Reading between the lines this may also be a completely different experience as it could be an open ended game, a bit like morrowind or fallout 3 which would actually be quite interesting.

Actually i’ll keep my eyes peeled for any new information about any of these 3 games as they would all be on my wish list, let’s be honest, if your anything like me then your going to be one of the first to grab a fallout 4, an elder scrolls V and another Tomb Raider.

For now it’s not really if it’s when and i’m sorry I can’t tell you that one, I wish I could but I at least get a good feeling knowing we have more great games to come that follow on from the ones we already love.

Dark Void is an action adventure game released on PC, PS3 and XBox360. With next gen shooter games things are just getting better and better, here is the game description:

Enter the Void, a mysterious gateway between two worlds. Play as Will, a pilot who joins a group of humans trapped in the Void, fighting against an alien race out to destroy the Earth. Fire up your jet pack and soar through a sprawling world where the assaults comes at you from every direction. Seamlessly move between air- and ground-based play as you sabotage enemy ships in mid-air, cling to walls in vertical battles fought a thousand feet up, and much more.

If shooters and/or action adventures is your choice this could be for you, at the very least it’s worth a rent.

Another highly anticipated game of the new year is Bioshock 2, for those who remember the first Bioshock it was an amazing game, great story excellent gameplay and graphics, it was a delight to play, engrossing and addictive, so can the second Bioshock match up to it’s predecessor?

Ok if you really enjoyed the first Bioshock let me tell you this, don’t bother reading reviews of people that have played the demo, don’t play the demo, just buy the game, you won’t be let down I promise you that.

Because of researching new games of 2010 I have actually seen the trailer, demo’s being played and reviews by people who have had sneek previews and demo’s and it’s almost impossible for someone to write something about this new instalment without giving plenty of spoilers.

It’s going to be a great game, yes better than the first, here is the game description and yes you can pre-order it from amazon as usual, Bioshock 2 is on xbox360 and PS3

    Game Description:

Ten years after the original descent to Rapture, BioShock 2 takes you back to the underwater city as a Big Daddy. Rapture has a terrifying new ruler who’s grown from a forgotten Little Sister into the city’s most powerful being. Fight through dark city hallways as a Big Daddy, an armor-suited protector of the Little Sisters. You’ll have the option to harvest their genetic modifications or keep them safe. Experience a haunting new storyline with flashback missions, new weapons and plasmids, new multiplayer modes, and more. This time, you’ll be able to use weapons and plasmids simultaneously, and even create plasmid combinations.

That’s as much info as i’m willing to post on this game, there is tons more but it’s not for those who are going to get this game anyway.

The Bioshock 2 Special Edition is priced at a high $90 but you get an art book, posters, audio recording and more, or you can go for the regular price of $54.98

    Tony
Actual contents for the special edition Bioshock 2 for the PC includes:
    * BioShock 2 for PC

Well i’ve just finished playing the demo for this game and although this is not usually my type of game I thought this one was unusually addictive.

The graphics were fairly stunning, the gameplay was very realistic which is not always the case with these type of games. Considering it is a shooter I found myself wanting more of this and will at the very least rent this one.

You definitely need a partner who knows what they are doing and you both pretty much need to be on the same wavelength or your not going to get the full enjoyment or potential from the game.

There is a ton of weapons and also the option of customization for a price, and getting into the role of mercenary will see you wanting to experiment with these. From decent shotguns to diamond studded grenades it’s all in there to add to your arsenal.

Here is the game description, and if your a fan of shooter games you won’t be disappointed, and as usual you can pre-order from amazon:

Co-op is once again king as the Army of Two returns to take on a whole new enemy. When Shanghai is hit by an epic disaster, some might call it a case of “wrong place, wrong time.” For Salem and Rios, the Army of Two, it’s a case of “right place, wrong time” for whoever is responsible. Fight your way through a city under siege with a constant AI or co-op partner as you pursue the truth behind the disaster. New moves have been added to your co-op repertoire, giving you more ways to collaborate as you battle enemies and work to keep each other alive.

On both PS3 and xbox360 release date is January 12th 2010. You can download the demo on the PS3 at the playstation store, it’s well worth the look even if your not a shooter fan, I enjoyed it.
