Yes started to play RE5 today, in some ways it was excellent, I am really enjoying the game but at the same time there is a bit of disappointment there.
I was surprised they took the merchant away, he was an excellent addition to RE4 but again I like the fact the inventory system means you can carry unlimited amount of things, well at least to a certain degree, you can’t access the full inventory until the end or beginning of each level, during each level you can carry up to 9 items, you can still combine the herbs which is good.
The most noticeable change ( apart from graphics ) is the Zombie’s, they are so fast now, it is a very fast paced game, when you come across enemies it’s usually in groups so you’ve got 4 or 5 minutes of non-stop action, panic almost in some areas, ammo is fairly limited especially early on, my first two groups of zombies was mostly fought with the knife.
Something I miss from RE4 is the lack of speed, I liked being able to work out what my next move would be, knowing the enemy was slower than me gave me the chance to experiment with tactics whereas RE5 is so quick you don’t have chance for tactics, you can’t outrun the enemy so it’s a stand and fight or die situation, although in a few areas if you get the chance you can get yourself on higher ground to pick enemies off more leisurely.
Well I played with my son for about 4hrs straight and we made it to chapter 3-1 and called it a day, i’m pleased with the game overall, just miss some of the aspects of RE4 but i’m still getting used to this, resident evil fans will love it, it will be another keeper i’m sure.
Will update as a review once completed, looking forward to the unlockables, it seems there might be more than in the previous resident evil, plus we have trophies to go for now which I think is fun.

Hi all,
Well we played for around 5hrs today, didn’t realize we had missed so much in the first few chapters, we thought we’d searched each area pretty thoroughly but we didn’t get a single BSAA emblem, it wasn’t until we found our first one that we even realized they existed.
Also found a level that reminded me a lot of the Tomb Raider type puzzles, turning out to be a better game than I first thought, still very fast paced once the enemies show and some great new weapons to use, grenade launcher is the latest weapon we’ve added to our arsenal and you can use acid rounds, sound familiar? Yes I remember using acid rounds against Nemesis.
We are at least picking up a few trophies along the way, can’t wait to finish to see what all the unlockables are, keep you updated as we go, have to watch the time though as i’ve not been able to put in the two hours a day I like to on the website, at least i’ve updated one post.
Tony
Hi again,
Well we managed to finish the main story, all in all was around 20hrs, that was on easy, and no it wasn’t that easy at all, was fairly amazed at how hard the last few chapters were, especially the last battle, it was awesome.
My initial disappointments in this game was completely unfounded and i’m very impressed with this latest Resident Evil.
20hrs seems like a fairly quick time but it’s not, i’m sure that time will increase a lot when we play through on normal, then even more on veteran.
We’ve also unlocked the mercenaries which was our favourite on RE4 and that is going to add some serious hours of play to our game, and trophies? Not even close to completing those.
I reckon we’ve got at least 100hrs play time on this if not more to complete everything on all levels. We haven’t had to look anything up so we are quite pleased with ourselves that we did so well, we didn’t get half the emblems either so we will be keeping our eye out for those when we start over with normal mode.
Actually looking forward to playing lots more on it, we are now at the point it is hard to turn it off but we are fairly strict with ourselves and are sticking to a plan, don’t see it lasting though, lol.
We have also managed to purchase about 10 figurines but there is still a lot of stuff to unlock, including extra characters it looks like, will keep you updated as we play along.
Tony
We are now about half way through the main game on normal mode this time, it doesn’t seem that much harder than easy mode but then we do have much more powerful weapons which probably compensates for it.
I’ve had a few goes at the unlocked “mercenaries” and it’s hard, i’ve yet to hit a score of 40k, my biggest combo has been around only 20, way more difficult than the RE4 mercs, I love it.
We did manage to get a couple of infinite ammo’s unlocked, and we’ve found 21 of the 30 BSAA emblems so there is still many hours of playtime with this game, it’s quite awesome.
Will post more as we progress through the different levels, i’m interested in seeing what “veteran” plays like.
Tony
Ok today we got to the final leg of the final chapter and we keep dying, and that’s with some decent weapons and upgrades, will try again tomorrow.
Now I don’t care what anyone says but those BSAA emblems are ridiculously hard to spot, I don’t really believe anyone could actually find all of them without some kind of help, yes both times through we missed a lot so had to look up the location of the emblems, and I was right, never in a million years would we have found some of them, a few can’t be find unless you have a specific weapon equipped, won’t say too much about it but yes indeed, very original some of the places they hid those.
Hoping to complete normal mode tomorrow then it’s on to veteran mode, still can’t get the 40k on the mercenaries but i’m getting close, 38k score last night about 3 times.
We are doing quite well on trophies, still can’t seem to hit an enemy in the face with a rotten egg, yes that’s a trophy, trouble is we’ve only found two rotten eggs and that’s running through the game twice so they are rare.
That’s it for today.
Tony
Ok we’ve now completed the main story on both amateur and normal, and we even managed to complete all mercenaries today, the last one being the hardest.
It seemed impossible at first but after a few hours of getting the outlay of the place in our brains so we could get plenty of time it wasn’t so bad, still very hard as you have a continous supply of fatmen and executioners. I was using Chris and Mark was using Wesker midnight and we still couldn’t do it.
It was me who eventually got there with around 43,000 points solo with chris, he had a shotgun and two rocket launchers which was the deciding factor in the victory I would say as I used those to kill off the first two executioners, it was the only thing that could take them out in one shot.
We did get the rotten egg trophy which now brings our total trophies up to 51% which I was disappointed with as I thought we’d done more.
We may wait a few day before going for veteran mode, even though we don’t want to we should take a break as we aren’t getting any work done and playing games as yet doesn’t pay the bills, lol.
Tony
Ok today we went for missing trophies we hadn’t yet got, we now only have about 7 trophies left to get and one of those is to complete veteran mode which we’ve now started, and it’s extremely hard in places.
We are at the moment trying to defeat El Gigante and we done him in fairly easy on the first two modes but on veteran he’s proving to be a pain, he’s really pumped and takes us out with just a couple of punches or a charge, we also keep missing the button push when it comes up, it was like every time we was supposed to press X we pressed O and vice versa, we’ll eventually get there. Will update when we finish as it shouldn’t be much longer.
Tony
We have now completed RE5 on veteran, still short two or three trophies, managed to get A rank on all chapters which unlocked the Jill rare figure, just leaves one more figure to unlock but I don’t think we’ll get that one, at least not for a while as I think we have to get S rank on all chapters.
Can’t seem to get the trophy “working together” or something similar, tried and tried but no trophy so any help on that would be appreciated.
We did try to have a go at “professional” mode but that is just crazy, one hit and your virtually dead if your not close enough to each other, we only just got through the first chapter on professional. We are going to leave it alone for a while now as we need to get on to some other newer games, it’s been great playing RE5 and i’ll keep going back to it like I have done with RE4, an awesome game, really.
Tony
Yes we are still playing RE5, addictive or what? Anyway I managed to unlock the infinite rocket launcher last night, also managed to get the elusive trophy for working together, need one more figure for the trophy “collect all trophies” and then I think we are done.
I don’t see us completing the game for a while on pro mode so we’ll be missing at least one trophy, at least for while, i’m considering buying the add-on for the slayers for $5
As i’ve mentioned in another post I don’t like paying for extra’s that I believe should already come with the game but for me this one might be worth it.
I’ve played enough now to write the RE5 review so keep your eye out for that.
