I’ve decided to put a few of the best new releases here, when I say best i’m talking about the top RPG’s which have been released just this month or last.

The follow up posts to this will be November releases followed by December releases, so let’s get started.

I’m really listing all the ones which are on my christmas list and as you know a game has to be pretty great for me to want to purchase.

First up is Borderlands, i’ve seen a demo and trailer, it looks pretty cool and the storyline seems like it good end up being a good game, I can’t help thinking of Fallout 3 when I see clips and screenshots of this game, it looks nothing like Fallout 3 but it just gives me that feeling that it could be a game like that, I could also be disappointed, i’m glad I rent my games before I buy.

Here is the storyline for Borderlands:

Borderlands: PlayStation 3

Journey to the harsh frontier planet Pandora where you will be greeted by an array of native creatures bent on stopping your mission. In search of a mysterious alien vault, you are destined to comb the vast environment, fighting your way through bandits and discovering aggressive creatures. Stepping into the shoes of one of four distinct characters, you will explore the unforgiving terrain and battle enemies in frantic first-person shooter combat. Do you have what it takes to survive an alien environment and finish what you started, or will you succumb to the unfamiliar wasteland known as Pandora? Set out on an epic adventure to the frontier planet Pandora in search of a mysterious alien vault. In the unforgiving environment, you will customize your character as you explore and battle enemies in devastating first-person shooter combat. Scour the planet for loot and wield a virtually endless variety of weapons and items as you navigate the game’s deep, rich fiction and revel in the bold art style that mixes traditional rendering techniques with hand-drawn textures. Join and leave other players’ games at will and even play in split-screen format, or choose to face the challenges of Pandora by your wits and might alone. Fight your way through bandits, discover nine native creatures and aid the few settlers on the planet as you seek the rumored treasure in the alien vault. Will you complete your mission victorious, or will you join the innumerable others felled by Pandora’s harsh environment?

Released on the 20th of October this game is priced at $59.99 on the PS3 and XBox360 and $49.99 on the PC. It’s a lot of money to part with if your not sure of this one, I would suggest rent this one first, if you want to check out what Gamefly has to offer it’s well worth it, you can read my review on Gamefly here.
The last one on my list is the best of the best, wherever you look even the critics are giving this game awesome reviews, yes Uncharted 2, I can’t even get to rent this one yet it’s so popular. You’ve probably seen the commercial on tv but if not there is a guy who plays Uncharted 2 and he’s complaining because his girlfriend thinks its a movie, that almost sums it up, the graphics from what i’ve seen so far are unbelievable, everyone who is reviewing it says it plays like a movie, it’s got a great storyline, the graphics will blow you away and i’ve never seen a game with so many 10 or 9.5 ratings, here is the storyline:
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves: PlayStation 3

Caught up once before in the treacherous world of thieves and mercenary treasure-seekers, fortune hunter Nathan Drake vowed it would never happen again. But when Drake finds himself running a bit low on luck, the lure of that world proves too tantalizing to resist. Drawn like a moth to a flame to the tale of the lost fleet of Marco Polo, Drake sets off on an expedition to find the valley of Shambhala. But he's about to encounter some very real danger amidst the legend. Return to a shadowy and dangerous world filled with mercenaries and criminals in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. As Drake, you'll embark on a perilous journey into the Himalayan Mountains in search of the truth behind a compelling legend. Make your stand aggressively against the dangers that dwell in the mountains, or take a stealth approach to combat courtesy of the game's open layout. See the game world come to life with a bold, cinematic presentation, complete with free-flowing "traversal gunplay" that adds a unique vertical element to standard third-person shooting mechanics. Compete or cooperate with other players in exciting multiplayer gameplay as you seize your courage and prepare to risk everything in a deadly pursuit.

Priced at $59.99 from Bestbuy or various prices from Amazon. If you want to check out Amazon store there are links/banners on the right hand side of the page, before buying from Amazon you should check out my Amazon review here.

Well I messed up last night, I decided I would create a new account so I could put my blog address in my profile, so I deleted my account so I could create a new one but I didn’t realize it would take everything out, including my add-on for resident evil 5 which is versus.

After a while I realized it wasn’t that bad as I just re-added my old account as the second account, and I eventually found my download for versus so I got everything back, including my trophies which was a big sigh of relief for me.

Only trouble now is although I can play versus again I only have two characters, Chris and Sheva as re-instating my old username has put the game back to as though I haven’t played it yet, which means I now have to play through the game again at least once to unlock mercs so I can earn enough points to buy the weskers and other characters, Wesker being 50,000 it’s going to take me a while to get my characters back.

The funny thing was I started to play through the game again last night for a bit on amateur mode and i’ve either forgotten where a lot of stuff is or just forgotten how tight ammo was in the beginning because by the time I got to fight the boss “Uroboros”, that’s the wierd oily wormy looking creature your supposed to trap in the incinerator I had no ammo left, believe it or not with my last 6 shotgun shells and Sheva’s last 8 shots in the handgun I had to finish him off with my knife, didn’t think that was possible, it took about 20 minutes but I eventually done him in.

Anyway that’s why I won’t be hosting anymore versus matches for a while, well at least a week anyway.
I will stop over and play some matches but just won’t be hosting any for a while.

Keep your eye out for some upcoming posts when I will be showing you the new 250 gig slim PS3 and where to buy it.

Since playing versus online i’ve become even more engrossed in this addictive game, I don’t think i’ll ever get all the trophies but that’s what is going to keep me playing this as long as there are players out there playing this game.

That’s not how I know i’m an addict of this game though, this morning I was watching my son play world series of poker on his PS2 system, I like poker but I started thinking of ways to liven up the game.

Imagine the game world series of poker played with all the characters of Resident Evil 5, how cool would that be? You’d have a poker table with the Executioner who would cut the table in half with his axe when he lost a hand.

After watching a cut scene of 4 Majini’s carry a new table into the room you would carry on playing the game, after Wesker lost a hand he would dash around the table finishing with a knee kick shattering the table into a million pieces ( followed by the cut scene of another new table ).

Then you’d have Jill lose a hand only to see her flip-kick the table upside down and finish it off with her double knee drop, and Wesker in the background taunting “it was in your best interest to lose to me”.

I could go on but you get the picture, does this make me a Resident Evil addict or just an over active imagination?

What other games do you like and how would you incorporate other characters into that game?

So far the two best bundles i’ve found are these two, both at walmart but it’s early days yet, i’m sure closer to christmas, maybe the end of November there will be a few more enticing bundles to choose from as companies try to promote more sales for the month of December. It’s a buyers market out there at the moment with lots of competition and you’ll find some decent deals the closer it gets to December.

Bookmark us as we will be getting first hand info on the latest bundles to hit the market, we’re still keeping our eye out for an uncharted 2 bundle rumored to be hitting stores so we are checking constantly.

First bundle we found worth showing on the ps3 was this system at $299 with Uncharted:Drakes Fortune thrown in also a voucher for a free download of Pain should be worth something:

Product info: This limited edition bundle includes Uncharted: Drake's Fortune game, new DUALSHOCK®3 wireless controller, voucher for downloadable PAIN game**, free PLAYSTATION®Network membership, internet ready Wi-Fi, and 160Gb of hard disk storage for all your games, music, videos, and photos. Every PS3" comes with a built-in Blu-ray player to give you the best high-definition viewing experience and pristine picture quality. Plus, the PS3 can play your entire catalog of CDs and DVDs.

The second one we found was the XBox360 bundle, not sure if this is one of those where you hope to get the games advertised but could change depending on availability, you may want to bear this in mind as they do that sometimes, this system comes with two games, the two advertised with the system is Pure and Lego Batman again priced at $299 both systems are good deals but I personally think better bundles will show up:

Product info:
The Xbox 360 Elite Holiday Bundle is a great value with two great games included, a massive hard drive, an HDMI port (HDMI cable sold separately), a black wireless controller and headset, and a premium black finish. With three powerful core processors and full surround sound, the console redefines what games look like, sound like, feel like, and play like to engage you like never before. Every Xbox 360 game title supports a mini¬mum of 720p, and up to 1080p high definition resolution or 480p standard definition resolution, in 16:9 widescreen

I own the PS3 80gig so am very biased but I will list other game systems and bundles which look like a good buy, it's really personal choice which is why i've listed both systems, also in case you were wondering the pictures are large as I wanted you to get a clear look at the offer, most times pictures are too small to see anything.

Let us know what system you prefer and why, anything gaming is up for discussion.

With christmas not far away we are already looking at how we can get the most for our money. For gamers it can be expensive and even harder to know what to get them, this is where we come in.

If you know you want to buy someone a PS3 then you may know that they have knocked $100 off the original price, you probably won’t find the PS3 cheaper than that anywhere as the price is sort of regulated, so whatever shop you look in the price will be the same, but you can still save more money by being aware of package deals or “bundles”.

Bundled package with the PS3 means you pay the same price for the system but you’ll get extra stuff thrown in, usually a game or an extra controller, over the next few days i’ll be scouring every major chain out there to find you the best bundled deals on the latest systems.

I’ll also be recommending a few of the latest game titles which will give value for money in terms of playability, excitement factor, story line and extra’s, so if you know a gamer you want to buy for this christmas but not sure what to get them, this series of upcoming posts should help.

We will also be adding more gaming gift ideas to the merchandise posts so be sure to check those out and if you already have a PS3 or know someone who does then you can always check the latest PS3 accessory post I done a few days ago here.

Wow there are some real animals playing this game, versus is resident evil 5 add-on to play online, it’s the same as mercenaries but at the same time very different.
It’s another addictive version of play and it really shows that i’m a newbie at it, after a couple of hours I improved a lot and even got one of the 10 trophies available with this add-on.
Anyone wanting to play me in either survivors or slayers my username is Knightofthe9 it’s really great fun, especially if you get a couple of players that are actually playing it properly.
There was a few times I got to play with players who just wanted to take me out and that was a little frustrating, wish i’d had a microphone, or maybe it’s a good job I don’t have one, lol
Come join the fun, it’s really cool.

I’m more than a little annoyed about the prices i’ve seen for add-ons that I would like to have but simply can’t afford.
I really enjoyed playing fallout 3 and I was looking over at the playstation store this morning and noticed they had 4 add-ons for fallout 3, awesome I thought, trouble is each one was a staggering $9.99, if you take in to account the game was $60 when it first came out, that now adds up to over $100 if you want everything. $100 per game I think is way too high.

This doesn’t apply to all games, I was also checking out the Resident Evil 5 add-on for playing slayers, which is online only I believe and that was only $4.99
Obviously the price comes down over time but you really don’t want to wait a year or more to buy an add-on, especially on a really cool game.

Needless to say I won’t be purchasing the add-ons for fallout 3 which is a shame, I really wanted to play those, but at $4.99 I may get the RE5 add-on.

What’s your take on pricey add-ons? I’ve heard people griping about $1.99 add-ons so I definitely think $9.99 is too high.

I think at $60 average per new game the companies have got more than their fair share of profits within that price range, when I see a $9.99 add-on that’s more along the lines of greed, especially when there are 4 of them for just one game, wouldn’t be so bad if it was $9.99 for all four but i’d still have a problem with that.

Come on Sony listen to your fans, get together with the game developers and give us some decent pricing on add-ons if you really must charge anything for them.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, so we’ve got some of the most advanced gaming systems you could ever expect to see, hard drives where memory is no obstacle now. Games which play like movies, consoles that can even play movies, so what is going to be the next big thing in the gaming world?

Personally I think with games with such a high price tag on them now and with us in the middle of a recession and so many out of work the gaming industry is going to have to start thinking of ways to keep those sales up or slash prices, which they don’t particularly like to do. With game rentals an option sales can only go down, unless you give the consumer a reason to keep paying $60 per game.

One way to do this would be to start giving people a chance at making some money playing games, I really don’t know why it isn’t already a big thing, it’s been done before with great success.

If you bring an average game onto the market with only a fair rating, add $10,000 prize money to the first person to solve it then you see sales start to treble and quadruple for an otherwise unpopular game.
It was done back in the 80’s when a type of game computer keyboard called the commodore 64 was extremely popular, the game was called Eureka and it was an adventure game, the first person to put the pieces together and solve the adventure and phoned the telephone number and won the money, turned out it was a 15yr old from the United Kingdom and actually won the 25,000 pounds ( uk sterling ), that’s around $50,000 give or take a few hundred.

Ok it’s a gimmick of sorts but it creates sales, and also gives gamers an extra reason for buying the game, even if they wouldn’t normally have bought it.

I do believe that this will eventually happen, it’s just who starts it off, the rest will follow suit. Let’s face it playing Resident Evil 5 was amazing, imaging how much better it would have been if there was 10K prize money to fight for, and I wouldn’t feel so guilty about spending so many hours playing my fave game 🙂

What do you think will be the next big thing in gaming?

Had a chance to play the demo for Brutal Legend today, this is my biggest surprise as far as games go this year, it really didn’t sound like my kind of game but it turned out to be a really fun game.
If you don’t buy this one at least rent it, the comments are really funny, the demo got completed in about 20 minutes but we couldn’t stop laughing, cool graphics and easy to use buttons make it a really fun game to play. I’ll write a review on it once I play the whole game but I don’t want to give anything away here.

If your looking for decent boss battles which seem to last forever then Devil May Cry 4 is right up your street, awesome graphics too, great cut scenes, if you liked the previous Devil May Cry’s you’ll love this one.

I’ve also been playing Infamous today for a while and this one is a keeper, another really fun game to play and very original, main story mode with side quests is going to make this one last many hours, I spent so much time messing around with my awesome powers and climbing stuff I never even finished the quest in the demo, it was a lot of fun.

Also watched the trailer for borderlands, this looks like another great game, tons of weapons, characters and looks like it’s going to be one of those games which is very open ended like fallout 3, talking of which i’ll be getting the add-ons for fallout 3 any day now.

Worse game played was Batman, the graphics were pretty awesome as were the cut scenes, I didn’t like the fighting much as the moves didn’t seem to connect with the enemy, it was like the enemy was reacting to the wind of my kicks or punches, and you can’t hit anyone else but enemies, not even the guards which was wierd, there seems like there will be loads of stuff to do in this game, just in the demo I unlocked some stuff so i’d recommend this one as a rental only, great looking game but some disappointments along the way.

It seems we have a lot to choose from over the next couple of months, lots of new games coming in time for christmas so there should be a game for everyone.

Some of the games i’ll be reviewing over the next few days will be Brutal Legend ( release date oct 13th ), Borderlands ( release date oct 20th ), Assassins Creed 2 ( release date nov 17th ), Dragon Age: Origins ( release date nov 19th ), The Saboteur ( release date dec 8th ) and quite few more.

I’ll get you as much info on these new games which should give you an idea of what to start spending your christmas money on.

If you want me to give you some info or review a particular game just drop a post in here and i’ll see what I can do, you can pre-order most “coming soon” titles from amazon or check out my review on Gamefly and rent them first so you don’t waste money.
