Ok I know when you first hit a new guild rank all you want to do is try out the new quests, we all did it but the first thing you should do really is to read up on the quests your about to take on.
This post is to give you some advice on Desperate Defense 2 which happens to be a GR 11 quest. You should be familiar with the quest by now because you should have run the first one at least a few times
For those that don’t know it the quest involves keeping a certain Captain Roberts alive (NPC) throughout the quest, as soon as this character dies the quest is over and it’s a big ‘fail’. No items, no rewards, no exp, no guilder.
I know some of you are wondering why i’m posting this now and it’s because i’ve just tried to run this quest twice now and both times failed, with four players, this shouldn’t happen.
When you start this quest someone should say at the very least if they are babysitting the captain or not, if the other 3 players had at least said they don’t want to babysit I could have done this. I took it for granted that being the highest GR in the quest my responsibility would be to do the most damage and get through the quest quickly with some decent items.
Having said that I also should have kept checking on roberts myself, especially the second time around.
For those new to this quest first of all you should really wait for four players. Yes I have done this with two but if your going into this quest at GR 11 you really want four. No extra rewards for completing it with two so it may as well be four and make everyone’s job that much easier.
Before the quest starts someone should say if they are going to be healer or not, if no one wants to babysit then the job can be shared, it’s pretty easy and it was a shame that we failed this quest, I mean we didn’t just fail we was humiliated because we failed on the very first Giga.
That’s why I wasn’t paying attention, usually even when there is a good healer I still check on roberts but only when the two giga’s come out, my mistake.
Also as i’ve said before even if there is a healer you should each keep an eye on roberts because he can be taken out in one go, and always assume the healer is down if roberts is low. This is one quest I really miss having Fates Favor, I regret not putting that in my skill tree just for that quest.
Another point worth mentioning I think is the very first battle, the one before the giga, there is about 5 or 6 magi, don’t , and I stress please don’t rush down there and kill everyone, this is the easiest part of the quest, use it to build your AC, one of the quests I failed everyone was longsword users, they all just steamed on down and wiped out all the magi, I managed to build up a whopping 2 AC, this first part is easy for a reason, build your AC your going to need it.
This sounds more like a rant than advice and in a way it is, I came here to give this advice because I was pissed at the way we failed and I see more and more of this quest failing miserably simply because some players won’t think before they enter the quest.
This is in no way pointing fingers, just wanted a few to know the best way to beat this quest, I am totally responsible for failing this quest twice because I should have kept a check on roberts and I didn’t, I assumed other knew what they were doing.
Just a few simple steps will guarantee your success in this quest, keep Captain Roberts alive, it’s about the only thing that matters, use the first battle to build AC, then help each other through the rest, that’s it.

Wow,
I’ve never really bothered checking before but today I was running Best Served Cold 3 (big red) and before entering the quest I caught a glimpse of the stats, you know it says ‘Best Grade’ ‘Times Completed’ ‘Fastest Time’ etc..Well I noticed that ‘Times Completed’ was 1000, it’s now 1002, lol.
That is ridiculous, it doesn’t feel like i’ve ran that quest that much. It’s not as though i’ve run that over a couple of weeks but still it has to be the most times i’ve ever completed any kind of quest online or offline on any game, wow.
If only I had saved the items and cash from those quests I would have had the 10 mill trophy months ago. Incidentally although i’ve ran this quest so many times it has been since I was GR 11 so it’s not as bad as it sounds (yes it is). I’ve been playing this game now for about 6 months and I must admit i’ve probably played on it every day, now that sounds bad but i’m including days I only go on it for an hour but i’ve always managed to play some every day, apart from 3 I think.
Although there are and have been better games out there this one has to be one of top in terms of hours you can put in to get the platinum trophy. There are games which are harder to obtain the platinum, this one is hard in terms of time, there is no quick way even though some have got platinum at GR 12 or 13 we are still looking at racking up a minimum 1000hrs.
My hours played are registered at around 1800 but that is not entirely true as at times I just leave it on all night even though i’m not playing, plus it’s left on when i’m charging the controller. Having said that I bet my actual game play is well over the 1,000hrs.
I know there are many more players who have clocked up even more than me, I was just dumbstruck when I realised I had ran big red that many times.
How many times have you ran big red? 1, 2 or 3??
Tony:)
Wow tonight has been awesome. I was really going to run from my town and carry on with my item experiment but I checked the message board first, then checked a few rooms as always. Spotted just 3 players running Home of the Knave 3 and i’ve been trying to find people to run that quest with for weeks to get my magic core+, I need two of them.
Well we ran that quest about 7 or 8 times, took 7 minutes to finish and that’s good, didn’t get a single magic core +, then the guy who was running the quest said he had had enough of Home of the Knave but if we wanted to run another quest he would so I asked where the best quest was to get Lethal Gallstone, another GR 15 was in there and said the Swallowtail glitch.
Ok so my ears perked up and wanted to know the details, he said he would run it with us, I needed just one Lethal Gallstone for my Gratos Cloak and got it first time and I thank that guy so much for being there, i’ve run Greaver Hunt more than 20 times and never got a gallstone, yet got one first time on Swallowtails, amazing.
I do feel guilty for not running with my experiment as I hate getting off a schedule I have planned but it was so worth it, i’ve been trying to get either the Gratos Cloak or the Knightlord Armor for about a month and just couldn’t get the mats.
I will get back to my experiment tomorrow without a doubt but just wanted to post what I did achieve tonight, so pleased.
You may be wondering what is so damn special about the Gratos Cloak, well there are only two pieces of top armor that give STR bonus, one is the Gratos Cloak and the other is the Knightlord Armor, this means now that when it’s upgraded to +10 I will actually have a full set of armor pieces all with STR bonuses, which would actually put my STR to over 300, something I have to try out at least once although I will probably even it all out like I usually do but it’s been so annoying at times when I need to put on extra AGI and haven’t got a top part for STR, now I do. Cool.
Well it’s now gone 3am and i’m going to bed, good luck all, hope to catch a few of you tomorrow and run some quests and get some of my item experiment done.
Tony 🙂
I know I was going to write the rest of the armor sets today and i’m in the middle of getting those together so it will probably be tomorrow now, there are more than I first thought but worth listing and I will do this.
I wanted to write about items that players keep asking about and to be honest there is one particular quest where you can get virtually every item you need that requires farming, I’m talking about ores, flowers, herbs, planks and branches etc…
As long as your at the magical GR 7 or higher you can run King Of Dragons 1 (actually you can run this one at GR 6), if your GR 9 or higher you can run KOD 2 and if your GR 12 or higher KOD 3.
Now I know what your thinking, you can’t possibly solo King of Dragons and your right, but you dont have to kill dragons, you can avoid them fairly easily and just on the first section where the Ice and Fire dragons are there are at least 14 pick up points where you can get stuff.
It’s a pretty good run through if you can take out the elementals, some of you won’t be strong enough yet to take on 3 or 4 elementals but if you can get the ones that are on their own that’s bonus exp and bonus items when they drop, and elemental drops are worth selling if you get enough of them.
There are ore drop points, many flower points, I actually run through this quite often to get me some Cordyceps to make my elixirs but whatever GR you are you will get a lot of what you need here. I am working on a walkthrough for this quest for item drops and their exact locations with grid reference so you can just look at the list and go straight to the pick up points you need if you don’t want to search every crate, flower bed and rock.
My last run through on this quest solo gave me many elemental drops to sell as well as scorpion drops and by the time I get to the fire dragon my combo is built up enough to attack his tail and get a bonus drop, I often let him kill me so I can restart at the save point and go towards the wind and earth dragons to get those pickups as well, it’s a really good quest for getting a lot of stuff that might usually take you forever.
Let me know if you want me to post the walkthrough for item pickups and i’ll probably do that at the weekend.
Tony 🙂
I haven’t written follow up posts on the armor yet as it was my sons birthday yesterday and at 10pm just as we was winding down our dog died so had a late night burying him, he had a good life, must have been about 14yrs old.
Will enter the other armors that I missed and the GR 12 armor either tonight or tomorrow.
I did solo my first Big Red 3 the night before last and although it was ok I don’t believe I got anything extra out of it by doing it alone, there did seem to be a few extra items in the reward screen at the end but it’s impossible to tell if that was because I did it solo as i’ve found that when your running Big Red with 3 or 4 players the reward screen changes from a few items to most of the screen full so I think that’s random whether you solo or multiplay.
The good thing about it was that at least on those quiet days when you can’t even seem to find anyone running Big Red at least I can do it alone so I won’t have to wait up to 20 minutes for someone to come in.
Still keeping my ear to the ground for a release date on WKC 2 for the international version but as yet i’ve heard nothing apart from rumors, as soon as I know something i’ll write it up here.
Tony 🙂
After hitting Guild Rank 15 I started working on the item binding, this has turned out to be more difficult with some items, as many rare item drops needed to bind weapons and armor can be as rare as half a percent, more are at a 1% drop rate making it frustrating at times for some because you have to run the quest so many times just to get one item.
One of these rare items are the Aged Dragon Skull, making this one more difficult is the fact that the Ancient Dragon can only be found in one quest and that is King of Dragons.
I found a slightly easier way to pick up the Aged Dragon Skull after searching online and seeing some people making comments that this item drop can be got on King of Dragons 1, this seemed unlikely because of the low Guild Rank required to run this quest, it was thought by most that Aged Dragon Skull could only be acquired from King of Dragons 2 or 3.
Anyway I decided to run KOD 1 and put this to the test, I can solo this quest but it takes about 30 minutes or so because you have to kill four other dragons before getting the Ancient Dragon, it’s a good quest to run on solo as you get a ton of items all of which can be used, and even if you don’t use them you can sell them for a fair amount.
Well my first two runs didn’t produce a skull but it did give me pretty much everything else in the Aged Dragon stuff, wing, tail, claw etc..My third run saw me getting hold of an Aged Dragon Heart, another rare drop. On my fourth run I did actually get the Aged Dragon Skull.
Statistically this is the best way to acquire the Aged Dragon Skull simply because if there is no players running KOD 2 or 3 you can still get it from KOD 1, another plus is that when I do this quest solo I seem to get a ton more items in the reward screen. I have picked up another 3 Aged Dragon Skulls from KOD 1 since so this has now definitely been confirmed for those who wasn’t sure.
One other point is that I don’t believe it is possible to get an Aged Dragon Skull in the reward screen, it’s only possible to get it as a drop by breaking the tail of the dragon.
I have found the most effective way to ensure a drop from the tail is when the battle first starts I use demon aura or you can use Inspire to give your attack a boost then head straight for the tail and hit it with a 15 AC combo, this (for me) has guaranteed a drop every time.
By doing it this way, even if the Ancient dragon manages to defeat you it hasn’t been a waste of a long quest, you at least managed to get the tail drop which is what you want the most.
Will post more on other hard to get items as and when I find them.
Tony🙂
Will also be available on PS3 and Wii. Lord Of The Rings Aragorns Quest for all you LOTR fans out there, here is the story:
Take up the sword and become the King of Men in this adventure that lets you live the Lord of the Rings trilogy through the eyes of Aragorn. Experience his greatest quests and most heroic deeds as you begin as Strider, Ranger of the North, and rise from the pages of legend to sit on the throne of Gondor. Wield his bow, sword, and spear as you battle the forces of Sauron on foot and on horseback. Fight alongside the Hobbits, Gandalf, and other characters from J.R.R. Tolkein’s fabled stories in a family-friendly journey through the world of Middle Earth.
I’ve seen the official trailer for this game and it’s not too shabby, lord of the rings fans will undoubtedly purchase this one. The graphics were quite impressive although I couldn’t tell if this was from the PS3 or PS2, it would be a game that I would personally rent as I’m not a huge fan of the LOTR games but I would play this one.
Tony:)
