Ok still at GR 15 so I really need to be getting me that Platinum trophy soon. I’ve seen some players get their Plat at GR 13 and some claiming at GR 12.

So my game plan for the next two weeks is firstly to get my 10 mill trophy, this will then give me enough money to buy one coin of everything which in turn unlocks all armor in my shop, next step will be to bind as many items as I possibly can to acquire the 450 bind trophy, which in turn should net me the last trophy which I think is an amount of weapons or something like that, which in turn unlocks the Platinum.

After that I plan on experimenting more with the geo town, i’m going to acquire all 18 150K residents in one town and see if we can get even more rare items. At the moment I only have 9 150K residents and 9 free level 10 residents so i’m going to be experimenting a lot with the town once I hit Platinum.

In between all that lot i’ll be helping others as usual whenever I can. There may also be some big changes to this site before WKC 2 comes out as i’m messing around with some stuff for the site. I will tell more when I know exactly what i’ve decided to do.

If anyone wants to request a topic be posted let me know as I don’t want to post things that are already all over the internet, I like to get unique content and not duplicate what’s already been done so if there is something you can’t find online let me know and i’ll see what I can do. It could be a subquest that you really want to know about or if you find something that is a bit contradictory let me know and i’ll find the correct info for you.

Occasionally I see something unusual that I like so I share it and this is pretty cool as well as what I would call an essential piece of equipment for the PS3, especially if you have more than one controller.

There isn’t much to say about the description, it just does what it says it does, charge up to 4 controllers at once. For $23.30 that’s not a bad deal and it also comes with a lifetime warranty, you can’t really beat that.

I paid $30 for my PS3 remote control and never used it, i’ll definitely get one of these though, as soon as I get a second controller. And if you wished they did a two controller charger they do, which is probably the one I would get, lets face it you don’t really need 4 charging at once, you can only really use one at a time.

This one at $9.99 is well worth it, probably more so than the previous one, charges two controllers at the same time, plug in to USB and it even has a blue LED indicator to let you know the charging status.

Ok no more sales talk, let’s move on to more gaming discussion.

A few posts back I mentioned about side quests but didn’t write any as I posted a link to wiki pages detailing many side quests.

I decided to post this particular one as there seems to be a lot of posts out there guessing at this particular side quest.

There are in fact 6 shiny spots in this quest which can be interacted with and two extra boss battles. One is the Earth Dragon which most know about and the other is a Treant which not so many know about or don’t know how to get both bosses.

Here is your guide to the side quest for Caravan Escort:

As usual you have to talk to Marco to start the actual quest. Now you need to get Warrior Adde and Chef Frio to follow you and go to the place where the first Troll King is, kill Troll King and follow the cave until it’s end and look at the shiny on the ground, click X and after your comment Warrior Adde says “whats up with this crack here?Looks like there’s a little rock wedged in there…Umph!” Next comment mentions with the rock removed, clear spring water begins to flow out of the crack…For those of you who use the map this location is M-3

Go back out to the main path and continue along, you will pass (or kill) another Troll King, he is at map location K-3, not necessary to kill him for the side quest, continue through the tunnel part and when you exit, immediately on your right is a dandelion, this is map location K-5, take the dandelion South and follow the path until the first tunnel/cave,examine the shiny on the right map location I-5 it tells you some amber-colored mushrooms are growing here. Chef Frio makes the comment “Hmm…What’s this…?” Then says “Hey, ambercap! This is gourmet stuff! Who knew it grew out here?” Then he says “I’ll just grab a few while i’m here…”

Now turn around and head back, catch dandelion to take you back over the gorge and take the two NPC’s to the end of the trail to finish the first escort, along the way there is a third Troll King to kill if you want at map location K-6, drop off both companions by speaking with Kyle, it will say they arrived safely. With Adde and Frio standing to one side speak with them individually and you will get ‘Clear Spring Water’ from Warrior Adde and some ‘Ambercap’ from Chef Frio.

Now you need to get back to the start to pick up the next two NPC’s, you need to get Captain Marco and Merchant Eddie to follow you this time.

You need to take them both all the way to the end but don’t speak to Kyle just yet, go past Kyle and follow the path until you see another shiny, examine it and it tells you there are some white rocks lying on the ground here. Merchant Eddie comments “Oho, that’s rock salt, isn’t it…Hmm…” then says “Hey, this is great! We got some really top-notch salt here!” Map location I-7. Release companions to finish second escort. Talk to Merchant Eddie to recieve some ‘quality rock salt’. Now talk to Captain Marco who comments “Oh wow, what have you got there, hmm? You don’t see that stuff everyday! Mind if I take a look?” He then takes the ambercap and clear spring water, mixes it and gives you some ‘amber essence’.

Head back to the start and take the remaining two NPC’s and before anyone starts contradicting this please read till the end and i’ll explain why i’ve changed from the official version of this side quest.

Take them to map location K-6 this is the path where the shiny is just before you get to the 3 scorpions near the end. When examining the shiny a jackal will appear, kill him for the Jackal Meat.

Carry on and go into the tunnel/cave just past the 3 scorpions, map location J-6 examine the shiny and use the ‘amber essence’ to attract the Treant.

To get to kill the Earth Dragon you will need to go back to where you crossed the gorge by dandelion and place the Jackal meat at the shiny at the end of the path, map location G-5 then you can finish the quest as usual.

This is the complete quest and I know there is another step mentioned in the official subquest but it is irrelevant as it only gets you a Hexcap which is not used for any part of the quest. This is my own personal walkthrough so you know it’s been tried and tested by me personally. I have killed both Treant and Earth Dragon and done it in the same quest, you don’t have to do them seperately in seperate quests as some have mentioned.

If you are with a group that are farming Troll Kings this wouldn’t really add any extra time on, you will struggle a bit to do this solo as I did because the time limit, it would work better if two people took one NPC each as I lost a lot of time taking two NPC’s to two different spots when it could have been done much quicker with two. Anyway there is the side quest/ subquest for caravan escort.

Obviously I have some time on my hands today. I’m probably more thinking out loud and writing rather than concentrating on being creative or informative but i’ve been trying to do a lot of research on what RPG’s are going to be hitting the market in 2011. In turn it started me thinking on what RPG’s i’d played in the past as well as the games i’m playing now and what I can expect in the future.

It’s quite amazing how tight lipped some gaming developers are, you think they would at least dangle the carrot, and the ones that do? well the carrot is so far away you don’t know what to expect.

One of my best RPG’s of all time has to be Morrowind, this was part of The Elder Scrolls, number 3 I believe, and yes even though I am a loyal Sony customer I actually went out and purchased an XBox solely for this game. In turn this got me onto Fable which again was a great game.

After playing Morrowind, and believe or not I still go back to it from time to time, I had to get Oblivion as soon as that came out on the PS3. At the risk of being run out of town for this opinion I actually was disappointed in Oblivion. It was still a great game but it lacked what I enjoyed the most in Morrowind, just little things that seemed to make all the difference, at least for me.

A big part of my experience with Morrowind was taking over different buildings and stashing my stuff, actually decorating the houses exactly how I wanted them, I had one house with all my glass weapons and armor, another house with all my daidric armor etc..and you could be so precise with the way you laid out your pads it was quite enjoyable, some of my boys got really carried away with that aspect of the game.

I missed using levitation spells too, but you didn’t need them in Oblivion and somehow the quests didn’t quite grab me like they did in Morrowind.

So will we see an Elder Scrolls V (5)? Of course, that much we know, and it’s a game I wait for with great anticipation, I really hope they take the best from Morrowind and Oblivion and come up with something a little bit special.

Another really good game on the Xbox was a game called Thief: Deadly Shadows, an amazing game you could really get into. Seriously if you haven’t played this game you should, and you should be able to get it cheap because it’s so old now. The reason I say play this game is because Thief 4 is in development and although that is all we know at the moment i’m sure this is going to be awesome. If they improve even a little on Deadly Shadows I will be amazed and I will buy this one.

Yet another game in the making is Final Fantasy XIV (14) and to be quite honest I have lost track of the Final Fantasy series. I was extremely hooked on FF7 and 8 and i’ve played FF 12 and I don’t know what it is about Final Fantasy but I just can’t bring myself to look into them much anymore.

I heard so many rumors about 13 and how good it was going to be but all i’ve read anywhere is how disappointed people are with it, some to the point of not even bothering to complete the game.

There has been information leaked apparently that there is another Tomb Raider in development for the PS3, XBox360 and PC but won’t be released until around Christmas 2011. I cannot confirm this but it wouldn’t surprise me. This is another series of games that i’m a bit addicted to, I played my first Tomb Raider way back when I owned a PS1 and back then there wasn’t much that could touch it, at that time the graphics were as good as you could expect, the gameplay was fantastic and the quests nearly impossible to complete, a lot of fun so i’ll be looking forward to a fresh Tomb Raider with new quests, as always with Tomb Raider games the locations were amazing and there is always extras that you just got to do like get all the trophies, artifacts etc..

One other game i’m looking forward to will be Resident Evil 6. Again I seem to flow the opposite to most as I really enjoyed RE5, I got so hooked on that one and I loved the online play too, yet many said they preferred the original ones. Personally I think they went the right way with RE5 although from what has been said it is going to change again in a big way with RE6. I think it might just be a good one for all resident evil fans.

Ok gone on long enough for now, what was/is your favourite RPG and what are you looking forward to?

Any of you that have played Fallout, especially Fallout 3 will probably want to play Fallout New Vegas. Personally as with all games I rent first then buy if it keeps my attention long enough.

My collection of PS3 games isn’t that large simply because there wasn’t that many really good games, or more specifically RPG’s. Now it’s different, things are looking up for us RPG fanatics and when I see a new one I write about it. When I see an unusual offer I write about that too.

This is one of those games that is definitely worth a rent, I liked fallout 3 so much I bought it and seeing as New Vegas is going to be in similar format i’ll probably end up buying this one too.

For those who are interested in specific deals on specific games here is an interesting ‘collectors edition’.

When you purchase Fallout New Vegas from Amazon here is what you get in the collectors edition:

* “Lucky 7” poker chips. Each of the seven poker chips was designed to represent chips from the major casinos found on the New Vegas strip and throughout the Mojave Wasteland.
* A fully customized Fallout: New Vegas deck of cards. Each card in the pack has been uniquely illustrated to depict characters and factions found within the game.
* A recreation of the game’s highly coveted “Lucky 38” platinum chip.
* A hardcover graphic novel “All Roads”, that tells the story of some of the characters and events that lead up to Fallout: New Vegas. “All Roads” was written by Chris Avellone and created in conjunction with Dark Horse Comics.
* The Making of Fallout: New Vegas’ DVD. This documentary DVD will contain exclusive video content, including interviews with the developers in which they take you from concept to creation.

You don’t often come across games with decent side stuff so I didn’t think this was a bad buy.

Want to know more about Fallout New Vegas?? Read on:

Welcome to Vegas. New Vegas.
It’s the kind of town where you dig your own grave prior to being shot in the head and left for dead…and that’s before things really get ugly. It’s a town of dreamers and desperados being torn apart by warring factions vying for complete control of this desert oasis. It’s a place where the right kind of person with the right kind of weaponry can really make a name for themselves, and make more than an enemy or two along the way.

As you battle your way across the heat-blasted Mojave Wasteland, the colossal Hoover Dam, and the neon drenched Vegas Strip, you’ll be introduced to a colorful cast of characters, power-hungry factions, special weapons, mutated creatures and much more. Choose sides in the upcoming war or declare “winner takes all” and crown yourself the King of New Vegas in this follow-up to the 2008 videogame of the year, Fallout 3.

Key Features:

# Feel the Heat in New Vegas! Not even nuclear fallout could slow the hustle of Sin City. Explore the vast expanses of the desert wastelands – from small desert towns to the New Vegas strip – and see the Great Southwest as could only be imagined in Fallout.
# Feuding Factions, Colorful Characters and a Host of Hostiles! A war is brewing between rival factions that will change the lives of everyone in New Vegas. The choices you make will bring you into contact with friends and foes, and determine the final explosive outcome of this epic power struggle.
# New Systems! Enjoy new additions such as a Companion Wheel that streamlines communication with companions, a Reputation System that tracks your actions, and the aptlytitled Hardcore Mode. Plus, special melee moves and real-time combat mechanics give you new ways to fight.
# An Arsenal of Shiny New Guns! With double the amount of weapons found in Fallout 3, you’ll have more than enough exciting, new ways to deal with the threats of the wasteland. In addition, a new weapons configuration system that lets you tinker with your toys and see the modifications in real time.
# Let it Ride! In a huge, open world with unlimited options you can see the sights, choose sides, or go it alone. Peacemaker or Hard Case, House Rules or the Wild Card – it’s all in how you play the game.

That’s about it for now, if I ever get away from WKC this will be one of my next encounters along with Assassins Creed The Brotherhood.

I think we are almost acceptance of the fact that occasionally we are going to get either ‘lag’ or booted out. When I say occasionally I mean, now and again, maybe once or twice during the course of a month, or even a week.

You don’t expect to see people get booted 3 quests in a row, I don’t expect to get booted 3 quests in a row. I expect lag sometimes but not 1 out of every 3 quests.

This is not a connection problem because it happens to many others, and my PC’s are just fine, my PS3 doesn’t boot me offline, just WKC servers.

I think the freakiest one was yesterday, we was running big red 3, we had 3 of us building AC and one running to start boss fight, we had our build up to around 6AC when it just froze, not completely froze, more of lag where you can’t perform any action but can still talk, at this point one person quit the quest, usually the game will continue, I have no idea why when someone quits the quest in this situation that the game continues as normal, it’s like it can’t handle a fourth person being there.

Anyway this time when one person quit the quest instead of continuing the game finished, came up ‘Completed Quest’ even though we hadn’t started the boss battle, hadn’t even got near big red or seen him but the quest ended, completed and gave us a B rank. I have never had this happen in the 6 months i’ve been playing this, very strange.

The point of writing this is to see if anyone else is starting to see ‘lag’ people getting booted or any other strange things happening more frequently now. It’s like since the release of WKC 2 in Japan there have been no more online quests released which was disappointing in itself but to see more and more of this being booted and lag and glitches appearing tells me that Level 5 or whoever isn’t bothering too much in keeping the servers up to date.

Some of us are still playing and enjoying the game, I see new players even now just starting and if your not going to keep a check on your servers to ensure they are running properly what makes you think anyone will buy WKC 2??? Certainly not these new players coming in now, if they can’t complete the game due to server problems your going to start to get a bad reputation and miss out on a lot of potential customers for WKC 2 when it does come out internationally.

Level 5, sort it out.

One of the most important things while playing White Knight Chronicles is to arrange your Combat Bars or what I call them “Action Bars”.

Everyone should know how to access this but just to make sure, hit triangle, then hit “combat setup”, click on your character and then ‘edit commands’.

You’ll see there are 3 bars each with 7 slots. I probably over use mine compared to most but this gives you 21 slots in total to use for different actions. If this is set up well, you will be playing at your most efficient in any quest.

I use two types of weapon, a Longsword for mulitplayer and Spear for soloing quests, the other skill tree I maxed was the divine magic. My action bars consist of 7 for the Longsword, 7 for Divine magic and 7 for my Spear commands. This isn’t a given as I often change them but you should consider this set up, or at least some of it.

Lets assume your a Longsword user but the same applies to all other classes too, apart from Mage which I cannot comment on as that is the only class I haven’t tried.

You should have 3 main attacks, these will be your favourite moves or moves which deal the greatest damage. I don’t recommend Deadly Fang on the Longsword as it’s not worth the cost in AC as a single attack. If you ever use Deadly fang it should at least be a finishing move in a combo.

Ok my 3 main attacks in the first 3 slots are Hack, Triple Fang, and something simple like Last Resort. Triple fang being the best damage dealing attack for the least amount of AC, using just 3 AC Triple fang can take as much as 1600 off Big Red 3, but having said that it depends on your weapon, armor and stats. Overall this attack is the best single attack for Longsword. Ok on with the rest of my bars.

First 3 slots taken with my fave moves, 4th slot has Icy Fang for an extra elemental boost on Fire Giants or Fire Dragons, 5th slot has Demons Aura which is like Inspire only better, it’s also quicker, 6th slot has Placid Heart which gets your AC up and my 7th slot has my longsword combo. Sometimes i’ll put in Firwyrm for Ice Giants and Ice Dragons, that goes in 3rd place instead of Last Resort.

Ok that’s one bar full up, good setup but we still have two more bars. Second bar is probably more important than the first, this has the Divine Magic. You should have at the very least Heal, Inspire, Raise and Haste. You can add other things like cure or revive but I find that if you have it put in ‘refresh’ instead, this cures you of any status ailments.

My ‘divine bar’ consists of Heal 3, +Heal 3, this is so I can heal everyone in the party if I have the time on my side, +Haste, +Fortify, Raise and Inspire, Inspire is a back up for others as I use the Demon Aura, my 7th slot has +Refresh for curing all party members of status ailments.

If your a lower GR than say 12 people aren’t going to expect you to do all this, this is my choice at GR 15. My objective in any quest is to make sure we complete the quest so I have all the abilities which are going to help the team succeed. Your own objective should be first to stay alive, then to help others stay alive, then thirdly to finish the quest. It’s better to finish the quest with an A or B than to not finish at all.

Your final bar can be made up of any extra attacks that your experimenting with. My third bar is for my Spear commands just in case we get into difficulties and I need to switch weapon. I’ve never had to use it yet but I keep this bar for my Spear for soloing quests.

My personal inventory is generally full up apart from 2 spaces, personal inventory is what you can carry and allows up to 20 items. Most of you will have at least 8 spaces taken with armor, weapon and accessories. The reason I have 18 constant items is because I carry 4 swords and a spear, a shield, some extra armor for a quick change and Elixirs and charge drinks.

One other item that can be of use is a Lifestone, it’s not too effective but if you use it during a quest then if you die it will bring you straight back to low health giving you a second chance to heal yourself, this saves waiting for someone to ‘raise’ you. It’s a shame you can only carry one but it can be handy.

I hope this helps some of you better arrange your bars to become more efficient when it comes to running quests with others.

I’ve noticed recently on the WKC message board that longsword users are getting a bad reputation. In fact there are a lot of people slamming players for acting like “noobs” etc..

The reason i’m writing this post is because most of what I do is what I see some of the complaints about although I believe they are talking about lower GR players.

I don’t see the reason behind trying to single out ‘bad’ players, there are so many different weapons and armors that no combination is completely wrong, it’s up to the individual to get what they are happy with.

Sure there will be players who don’t understand the game completely and some that play like idiots but that’s the same in any game. I think you should either try and help them or just compensate for their lack of knowledge.

Sometimes this means you have to do a bit more than you usually do but at the end of the day the main objective is to finish the quest.

Having said all that for those who are still learning the best way to run quests the first thing you really need to ensure is that there is some kind of organization from the start of the quest.

Look at the other 3 players, what are they? You might have a mage, a tank and a damage dealer, then again you may just have 3 other players like yourself. You shouldn’t go into a quest relying on other to heal you because it may not happen.

In order for any quest to be successful you need to work as a team, even if there is one player who really hasn’t got a clue. In this case you have to imagine there are only 3 of you and work with the other two that know what to do.

The divine skill tree is a must, and I believe everyone should have at least Heal, Raise, Haste in their bar, these three will save you most of the time. If you see someone getting low on health, even if there is a healer you can help with a bit of Heal, the healer could be down. Once everyone is in good health your going to finish the quest, even if it takes a bit longer.

I consider myself a Damage Dealer, i’ve even been in a situation where I could finish a boss but decided to heal someone anyway or raise someone that’s fallen, sounds silly but i’ve been on the ground eating dirt too many times to know what it feels like and for an extra couple of seconds it’s better to finish a quest with a full team.

A quest that fails a lot is always a quest where you have to look after an NPC’s sometimes two NPC’s, usually there will be one player who will look after them and constantly heal but sooner or later that player is going to get hit, maybe knocked to the ground and with multiple enemies if no one else helps out that person will get the blame for failing the quest.

Guess what it’s not his fault, it’s yours. Working as a team is the only way to complete a quest, you may have a plan and it may not involve looking after NPC’s but if they die, you fail, you all fail. It doesn’t take much to keep an eye on the health of an NPC, if you see him getting low on health, assume the healer is down and take over, get the NPC’s back to good health and resume your plan, if you need to help the healer, help him/her. These simple steps should be a given and will help you get more ‘Complete Quest” instead of ‘Fail Quest’.

Sidequests in WKC |

By Tony

Categories:

Gaming Banter, WKC Online

Hi all,
I’ve noticed on many quests that I run that hardly anyone does the side quests. I don’t know if it’s because most don’t know the sidequests or because it’s just quicker not to do them.

The thing with sidequests it usually ensures an S rank although that isn’t too important to many but it also gives different items which can be very useful.

If your not really sure what i’m talking about i’ll give some examples. One that comes straight to mind is Material Advisor 1 or 2, i’ve played this often as at times I need a Massive Molar or Incisor so I go to this quest, it’s great for drops.

Whenever I play this one though a group of people just keep getting one Ahwanee, thing is there is a side quest which enables you to fight two at a time, same with the Treants.

Another side quest that I have only ever seen done once is Caravan Escort, there is actually an Earth Dragon on this quest.

There are quite a few more so over the next week or so I think i’m going to post all the side quests for each main quest, this will help newcomers to the game cover much more than just a basic quest, if you want extra stuff you can do the full quest or just go for the main quest.

My apologies for not being around for the last few days, not even on the game as my wife was taken ill and i’ve just spent the last two days and nights in the hospital with her.

I probably won’t be around for the next week or so but even if I am it will be sporadic. It doesn’t really matter how good a game is or how important a blog or website is when it comes time for family and emergencies, my top priority is always to be by my wife’s side at all times, especially when there is sickness. I know you understand this and would be the same so am just letting you know the reason for my absence.

Hopefully things will be back to normal soon as we are waiting on test results. Take care everyone and happy questing, kill a monster or two for me.
